Clientele

Bangladesh has a mature garment industry with a tradition of more than twenty-five years of export to international markets. Its society has a thousand year old history of harmony and homogeneity among major religious and ethnic denominations, and is founded upon ethical, social and family values. Bangladesh is a signatory to major international treaties upholding labor and human rights.

General System of Preference (GSP):
Sweaters manufactured in Bangladesh are considered as originating from Bangladesh for GSP purposes irrespective of the country of origin of the yarn. Importers from European Union (EU) therefore have an advantage in importing sweaters from Bangladesh because of their duty free access to that region.

Quota:
Bangladesh enjoys a favored status in textile trade with EU and its apparel exports are quota-free to Europe. This compares favorably to other major supplier countries like India, China and ASEAN member states.

Sweaters made from wool and other noble natural fibers are quota free to the US across all gauges. Cotton sweaters are quota free in coarse gauges 3, 5 and 7. Man made fibers and cotton sweaters in fine gauges are restricted by quota and SQ holds sufficient quota to service the needs of its customers.

Canada, Japan, New Zealand and Norway have recently granted duty and quota free access to Bangladeshi apparel, including sweater, to their markets. Australia is expected to grant the same from June 2003.

SQ has successfully harnessed the benefits of its investments and managerial expertise to cater exclusively to high street retailers. Innovative and higher quality products, response to fashion trends and market needs as well as large production capacities have established it as a key vendor.

Sixty-five percent of SQ products is currently exported to Europe, mainly UK, Spain, Sweden and Germany. Thirty percent is exported to USA, and the rest to Canada and Japan. Our main buyers are GAP  in USA, P&C, Esprit of Germany, Marks & Spencer, George, Mackay’s, Littlewoods and Jeff & Co. in UK, H&M in Sweden and ZARA in Spain.
